2012 – 2013 JSLB Service Projects
Terrific Tuesdays supporting the Child Abuse Prevention Association (CAPA):
The Child Abuse Prevention Association (CAPA) is a local nonprofit who provides prevention and intervention programs targeted to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect. Members placed on this project take turns volunteering on Tuesday evenings in the CAPA shelter and spend quality time with children who have been removed from their homes because of sexual, physical abuse and/or neglect. They engage in activities that promote character development, fun games that provide a much needed distraction and creative arts and crafts projects.
CODA provides professional supportive services to victims of intimate partner abuse and their children in Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties in South Carolina. Committed to the belief that safety from violence and freedom from fear are universal rights, CODA conducts community education programs to confront the societal norms that condone abusive behavior. The CODA – JSLB project will provide a structured outlet for fun and camaraderie for CODA’s shelter residents. JSLB members provide dinner and an activity for the children and women who are in the shelter.
JSLB will host a blood drive during the 2012 – 2013 league year. JSLB members will be responsible for coordinating, recruiting donors and staffing the drive. Drive date and collection goals to be determined.

Summary: JSLB creates a fun, young party with a band and BBQ. Held outside in the Spring, the event aims to raise money through ticket sales, auction/raffle and sponsorships. The event has gathered more than 300 guests each year and has raised over $100,000 for the children of the Beaufort Area Boys & Girls Clubs.
Junior Service League of Beaufort (JSLB) will host the JSLB BBQ by the Marsh on Saturday, April 13, 2013. Tickets to the 7th annual fundraising event are now on sale for $40 per person or $75 per couple. The ticket price includes a BBQ buffet, open bar and live music. All proceeds from the JSLB BBQ by the Marsh will be distributed to local non-profits who meet the JSLB focus of uplifting women and children in our community. JSLB’s fundraising goal is to top last year’s amount. Purchase tickets on line from our main page!
Beaufort Memorial Hospital leads a group of four other sponsors who are dedicated to the success of the JSLB BBQ on the Marsh. Those who attend the event have the opportunity to win prizes, which includes everything from rounds of golf to tooth whitening services.
Jennifer Wallace, JSLB BBQ event co-chair, says, “The JSLB members really believe in this event and it’s a great way for the community to give back to local non-profits who meet the JSLB mission. Not only does the BBQ raise money for great causes, but the event is always tons of fun. Lorin Siegel, JSLB BBQ co-chair adds, “We are grateful to all of the local businesses who are sponsoring the event and those who have donated items for the silent auction.”
The JSLB Signature Service Project will be a defining way for JSLB members to give to young women in our community. We plan to host a prom boutique, where female middle and high school students who cannot afford to purchase a new prom dress can shop for a dream dress for free! Visit the website today!
